Grover Cleveland Horner

b   January 4, 1885   d   July 15, 1977

My Pap (as we called my dad), carried the US Mail on horseback during his young days in Sneedville, Tennessee, in Hancock County. He married Carrie Mae Buttry. Mae  was born in 1889 and died April 25, 1925. She was the daughter of Joab and Sally Seal Buttry. Mae’s father gave each of his 3 children 80 acres of land to farm and live off of. The land was along side highway 66 and Trent Valley road  in Hancock county Tennessee.

My father Grover had never been a farmer before this gift of land from his father-in-law. Dad had a house built on the land where he raised his family. Some years later after he had moved to the community he answered the call to preach. He was a member of the Stoney Gap Church. He always taught the men’s bible Sunday school class. There will be more said about him later.

1. William Jesse   b April 12, 1907 . Married Lucille Mullis in Illinois Children: Eleanor Rogers, Orvetta Turner, Allen

2. Emory Lyle   b August 18, 1908   d   November 1978. Married Imojean Wilder. Children: Lyle, Kyle, Robert, Albert, Bill, Kathy, Jack, Carrie Mae

“History repeated in that he had the same number of children (boys and girls) as Grover had with his first wife Carrie Mae”

3. Gustin Ervin   b   August 9, 1910   Married Irene Seal and had 4 children: Charlotte, Ezra, Vance, Wilma

4. Ina Jean   b May 30, 1912    Married Curtis Seal and had 1 son Dewayne. After Curtis death, she married Fred Combs.

5. Woodrow Wilson    b   October 6, 1914. Married Dorothy Lathen in Illinois. They had 2 sons: Bobby Joe and Johnny Lynn

6. Sallie Laura   b   February 16, 1912. Married Woodrow Green. Children: Opel Seal, Edwin, Emory, Glenn Bedford, Wanda McCoy. Her second husband Roy Wolf.

7. Thomas Onessimus (Ness)    b   Februry 28, 1923. Marrid Leia Barker. Children: Tommy and Donna Escaubas.

8. Joab Bedford (Joe)   b   April 18, 1925. Married Nel Jennings. Children: Ronnie, Charles, Donnie, Terry, Joey, Bobby

Children of Grover Cleveland and Jesse Seal (Three Children)

Grover was blessed to meet and soon marry Jesse after the death of Grover’s first wife Mae, who died soon after childbirth in 1925.              

After the death of Carrie Mae, Grover married Jesse Seal 12/28/1930 and had 3 children. Jesse Seal was the daughter of James Seal (b  December 6, 1849 and died September 10, 1925) and Martha Fairchilds ( b October 30, 1849 died December 19, 1935)

Jesse was a strong woman with Christian faith and a prayer warrior beyond belief.  Several of James’ children can vividly remember hearing their grandmother Jesse praying and crying out loud to God while she was out gathering eggs.

Grover and Jesse Seal had three children.

James Calvin Horner born October 19, 1931 Married Lydia Ilene Winkler b January 1, 1932 on May 4, 1951.

John Mark Horner b February 27, 1933 married Joanne Alder b May  3, 1935  Children: Marka Joan (Joanie) Wilder and Tracy Edward b May 9,1964 d April 4, 2020.  Joanie married Jeff Wider and Joanie's children are  Clint, Jessie and Grant Tracey's has one child, Joshua.  Clint married Ashley Bridgewater  and has three children, Colton, Chloe and Creed. Jessie has three children (triplets) Brenley, Casen and Cade.

Linda Diane Anderson Turner – Born June 10, 1957. Married December 2, 1976 John C. Turner – Born April 26, 1954

One son: Caleb Zebulun Turner born March 10, 1992. Married February 27, 2016 to Kandace LaShea McDaniel Turner born December 30, 1991. They have one Daughter: Emerson Lynn Turner born June 28, 2018

 Donald (Donnie) Glenn Anderson – Born March 19, 1960 Married April 20, 1991 to Regina Ann Ramsey Anderson – Born September 30, 1968

One son: Jacob Aron Anderson born December 23, 1993. Married April 26, 2014 to Emily Paige Shirks Anderson born May 2, 1993.

They have 3 Daughters: Riley Madelyn Anderson born August 12, 2015, Hattie Raeann Anderson born January 2, 2018, Makenlee Hope Anderson born June 26, 2019

One daughter: Allison Marie Anderson Kwiatkowski born August 24, 1995 and Married October 12, 2019 to Andrew (Andy) Jeffrey Kwiatkowski born May 29, 1992
